To ensure that every student has the right to begin thinking deeply, debate, question and recognise moral dilemmas and the religions and worldviews that exist in the world. To begin to understand the decisions and choices people make about life and the universe and how these influence their own actions, worldviews and experiences.

Key Stage Three

In Year 7–9, students will study and enquire into what disciplines make up Religious Studies and be given the opportunity to study religious and non-religious worldviews through the lenses of Theology, Philosophy and Sociology.

Year 7 will focus on the core beliefs and teachings of Judaism and Christianity along with the development of Philosophy in the Ancient World.

Year 8 look at the concepts of selflessness and service within Sikhi, Animal Rights in the 21st Century and What is it like to be a Muslim in the UK?

In Year 9, we study the religious and moral implications of the Holocaust, the concept of Suffering and Religion and Social Justice.

Key Stage Four

During Key Stage Four, students will study the AQA GCSE Syllabus A. The chosen religions are Christianity and Buddhism and they will study the key beliefs, teachings and practices of different traditions within each faith.

The Themes that have been chosen to study for paper 2 are Religion and Relationships, Religion and Life, Crime and Punishment and Conflict and Reconciliation.

The course is examined by two written papers.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

We offer the ability to represent the school at the City and County Philosophon competitions. We will also offer trips to local places of worship to give a richer understanding of religious practice. We also offer the opportunity to participate in a national project alongside 300 other schools across the country on the Holocaust, Their Family, Me and Us.
