PSHE prepares us for life’s opportunities, by allowing all students to explore their own identity and connect this to their place in the world; whilst gaining the skills and knowledge to make responsible choices as they become independent adults in modern day Britain

Key Stage Three

The PSHE curriculum is centred around six strands: Health and Wellbeing; Risky Behaviours; Healthy Relationships; Discrimination; Digital Literacy and Future Aspirations. Through these units students will build the skills around staying safe and making responsible choices

In Key Stage Three, the students will examine how puberty will impact their emotional and physical health. They will also learn how to support their own mental health and make healthy choices about sleep, diet and routine. We will also look at what we mean by healthy relationships including those with friends and families. Through the digital literacy unit, students will be taught about their online presence and how to navigate the online world safely.

For more detail about the topics being studied please look at the PSHE curriculum map

Key Stage Four

All students continue to study PSHE in Key Stage Four to ensure that they continue to learn skills that will help them to make responsible choices in different situations they may face as they increase their independence in their journey towards adulthood.

Topics build on the six modules taught half termly across PSHE in KS3.

In Key Stage Four, the students will develop skills relating to their growing independence related to careers, finance and the law. They will continue to look at different types of relationships with a focus on healthy/unhealthy relationships. Students will be reminded of how to stay safe when they make choices in the future such as drinking alcohol, getting cosmetic procedures and embarking on sexual relationships.
