PE is committed to develop and challenge each student’s sporting potential, develop their character through sport and provide leadership opportunities for all.
We promote a ‘be your best’ philosophy in performing, leading, coaching and officiating, supporting a lifelong healthy active lifestyle.

Key Stage Three

In Year 7–9, students will develop a variety of knowledge and skills through game play and progressive practices in team and individual sports. Focusing on the fundamentals, teamwork, problem solving, leadership and communication skills in an inclusive environment.

Students in Year 9 can choose to study the Sports Foundation Level 1 Qualification, focusing on sports leadership, sports coaching and volunteering. This is a stepping stone course for students looking to access GCSE PE or BTEC Sport at Key Stage 4.

Key Stage Four

During Key Stage Four, students will have the opportunity to select a pathway to obtain a qualification in GCSE PE (AQA Syllabus) or  BTEC  Sport  Level 1/2 (Pearson). At GCSE level, weighted (70% theory, 30% NEA) the course will focus on a combination of NEA (Non-Examination Assessment) involving practical assessment in three sports from the specification and a written piece of coursework. The two written examinations focus on Applied Anatomy and Physiology and Socio-Cultural Influences and Wellbeing.

At BTEC level, the programme of study focuses on three components: two of which are internally assessed (60%) through vocational assessment (1. Preparing Participants to Take Part in Sport and Physical Activity & 2.Taking Part and Improving Other Participants Sporting Performance) and external assessed (40%) through a written examination component (3. Developing Fitness to Improve Other Participant’s Performance in Sport and Physical Activity).

Core PE is mandatory for all students, focusing on further developing their skills in sport and supporting lifelong enjoyment and involvement in sport.
