Our vision is to empower all our learners to be confident, fluent and enriched Mathematicians.

Key Stage Three

In Key Stage 3, students become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, reason mathematically and solve problems.

The key areas are:

  • number
  • algebra
  • geometry and measures
  • probability and statistics

During tutor time, students complete weekly numeracy ninja activities to help them achieve fluency in key skills. After each assessment students receive a feedback sheet with links to videos and questions to help them with each topic.

National Curriculum - Mathematics

Key Stage Four

In Years 10 and 11 students continue to build fluency, reason mathematically and solve problems. Where students are not confident on prior topics, this is consolidated and practised before moving on. Where students have a strong understanding of prior topics they are challenged with more complex problems and additional content to allow them to access the higher paper.

The key areas are:

  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Ratio, proportion and rates of change
  • Geometry and measures
  • Probability
  • Statistics

Our exam board is AQA and students will sit either foundation or higher tier. The exam is made up of three papers, two of which are calculator. Students are given lots of opportunities to practise exam style questions (both in weekly 6 grids and in revision booklets before final assessments). Students benefit from having their own set of Mathematics equipment, including a scientific calculator.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

Year 7 have the chance to create their probability games and run stalls for their peers during a Probability Fair.

Year 8 will complete a cross-curriculum Plastic project, with a winner chosen by the headteacher.

Top sets students take part in the UKMT Maths challenges (a national competition).

Year 7 and 8 complete numeracy ninja and have the chance to compete in ninja showdowns in assembly.

Year 9 and 10 complete Algebra Assassin in their tutor plan leading to peer-to-peer support.

We also run weekly extra Maths help for year 11s to help them prepare for GCSEs.

Our top mathematicians are able attend a weekly extra maths club to prepare them to take a Further Mathematics qualification in Year 11.
