Geography at USH aims to promote a curiosity and appreciation for the diversity of our planet and sparks a lifelong passion for exploration, helping us to become better global citizens.

Key Stage Three

In Y7 – Y9, students will take a journey through the continents to develop knowledge of places around the world and acquire understanding of how our world works linking human, physical and environmental Geography together. We explore the Geography of places and students will develop their ability to use geographical skills, data, maps and construct arguments using evidence which forms part of decision making.

Key Stage Four

During Key Stage Four, students follow the AQA GCSE Curriculum

Where students travel the world from their classroom, exploring case studies in the UK, higher income countries (HICs), newly emerging economies (NEEs) and lower income countries (LICs). Topics of study include climate change, urbanisation, natural hazards, economic development and and the challenge of sustainable resource use. Students are also encouraged to understand their role in society, by considering different viewpoints, values and attitudes through decision making.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

We offer a Geography lunchtime club which is open to all years where students get involved in project-based challenges.

We run an Eco Committee who are passionate about making USH more sustainable. The work we do contributes to USH being an Eco School.

We offer a range fieldwork opportunities throughout KS3 and KS4. Fieldwork in Year 7 explores local Geography, Year 8 go the Natural History Museum as part of their tectonics unit and Year 9 have the opportunity for a residential to Nettlecombe Court in Somerset. GCSE students head to Bournemouth as part of their compulsory fieldwork looking at human and physical Geography.
