Key Stage Three
In Y7 – Y9, students will study the fundamental IT skills
that underpin safe and responsible usage of technology, such as e-safety and
responsible use of computers. Students will develop a range of useful IT skills
through hands-on project-based units.
For the computer science aspect, students will design, implement and assess computational abstractions that model real-world problems, using key algorithms and logical reasoning to compare the effectiveness of different solutions. They will work with multiple programming languages, including at least one textual language, to solve various problems, applying data structures such as lists or arrays and developing modular programs with functions.
Additionally, they will grasp foundational concepts in Boolean logic, binary representation and perform simple binary operations like addition and conversions. Students will understand the interactions between hardware and software components in computer systems, as well as data storage, processing and digital manipulation. Students will engage in creative digital projects, using multiple applications and devices to collect and analyse data and meet user needs. They will create and adapt digital content with a focus on reliability, design and user-friendliness.
Alongside technical skills, students will learn about online safety, privacy and responsible technology use, including recognising and responding to inappropriate content and conduct, thereby protecting their digital identities.
