Year 9 students visit Karl Blossfeldt exhibition

On 15th May a small group of Year 9 Photography students went to Solent Showcase Gallery to see an exciting photography exhibition featuring the work of photographer Karl Blossfeldt. The exhibition shows his original portfolio of 40 photogravures from 1932 around the theme of details in nature. The students were able to have a tour around the gallery.  After, working with artist and photographer Rosy Maguire, students went into the darkroom facilities of Solent University to use pinhole cameras and created their own photographs of nature. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the best of their work is now on display in the gallery.

Year 7 Camping Trip

With the weather improving, we can turn our thoughts to the camping trip in July.  Students will need to be in school at the normal time on Monday 17th July, in suitable clothing for the various activities and will return for the end of the normal school day on Tuesday 18th July.

Students will need a roll mat and sleeping bag (named) which will be taken to the campsite in a mini bus.  Students will go by double decker bus with their kit bag on their laps.  Please provide a packed lunch for the Monday, all meals will be provided after that.

Parents will be provided with the school mobile and the campsite phone numbers.  As both signal and mobile internet strength is not great in the New Forest and there will be no available power points to charge devices, we have decided that students will not be allowed to bring mobile phones on the trip.  There is no way of storing phones securely.  We will take ample photos and update the school twitter account and send emails showing progress of the trip.

If you have any questions, please get in touch,

Letters from the Library …

Members of the Year 7 Book Group are taking part in the 2017 Southampton’s Favourite Book Award.  Run by the Southampton School Library Service since 2010, the award is intended to promote the enjoyment of reading, and to encourage children to recommend their favourite, recently-published books for others to share.  And, of course, it recognises and celebrates children’s books! A long list is compiled from recommendations from children and librarians across the city, and is eventually whittled down to four titles.  The books must be by British authors and must have been published in the previous year.  This year, the shortlisted titles are:  Beetle Boy, by M.G. Leonard; Top of the Class (Nearly), by Liz Pichon; 13 Hours, by Narinder Dhami, and Petunia Perry and the Curse of the Ugly Pigeon by Pamela Butchart.

We are now busy reading the shortlisted books, and discussing them. So far, our favourite is 13 Hours. It is the tense and exciting story of Anni, who, along with her disabled mother, is held hostage in her own home for thirteen hours by masked strangers.  Those of us who have read it have found it almost impossible to put down!

We shall all vote for our favourite in July, and the winning book will be announced and celebrated next academic year.  Will our favourite book win?
