We have been running a Christmas Card competition at USH for the official school card and the winner this year is Myleta, who is in Year 8. Myleta spoke about winning the competition:
“I really like photography and I heard about the competition. I like pictures I have seen of objects placed on an open book, so I had cake decorations in the shapes of trees and I focussed on the words. I really thought that the competition winner would be one of the older students. The lighting really helped my photograph and I think winning is cool because it will meant that more people will know who I am! I really love photography and art, but I prefer photography because, even if you take a bad photograph, by using filters you can make it better; you have more control”.
Well done Myleta, it’s a great photograph!
Year 11 - To help with post 16 options, students will be attending taster sessions at either Richard Taunton Sixth Form College or City College. A letter regarding this will be issued shortly.

The visit included an interactive presentation ‘An Introduction to University’ and a tour of the new build ‘The Spark’ which contains a stunning central atrium and a futuristic, multi-functional ‘pod’. The following comments were written by students following the visit:
"I know what to do when I grow up because of this visit"
"It will make you work hard and have more determination to get to college/university"
"I’ve learnt that university is more than just a place of study. The visit has helped me to value my learning time and experiences"
A group of students from Year 9 took part in the University of Southampton's Learn With US Masterclass. This included a workshop on transferable skills and masterclass run by Medical Students. The session ended with presentations by students from the 5 schools who took part in the day. I’m very pleased to announce that our students were awarded first prize, students received Amazon gift vouchers.
Congratulations to all the Year 9s who took part.
An Interview can be a daunting experience, however, following the recent mock interviews and feedback from the interviewers we hope our students are prepared for future interviews. Congratulations to Charlie Browne, Abigail Goldstraw, Maisy Parkes, Alfred Stone, Saffron Sandhu and Phoebe Baldwin who have been awarded ‘Platinum’ certificates for the quality of their covering letters, CV and interview– well done!
Being a secondary school pupil and becoming a teenager are big changes, with challenges as well as joys. These sessions will give parents key information about changes taking place in their child’s brain and the major impact this has on their emotions and behaviour. This understanding is the foundation for setting appropriate loving limits and maintaining a positive, respectful relationship.
Lorraine Lee, a professional parenting practitioner, with over 14 years’ experience will be leading the sessions. She has worked with schools all over Hampshire and has a background in child psychology.
